‘A Feminist Perspective on Equality’

Professor Eva Feder Kittay

Distinguished Professor of Philosophy

Eva Feder Kittay is Professor of Philosophy at SUNY (State University of New York), Stony Brook. She has written extensively on philosophical issues relating to metaphor and the philosophy of language, and since 1979 on ethics and social policy. Since the mid 1990s she has focused on disability and feminist social ethics, and is currently best known for her work on issues in ethics and social and political philosophy.  She is an acknowledged world leader in the philosophy of care, dependency and disability, on the interpersonal and social policy levels. She is a past Chair of the American Philosophical Association’s Committee on the Status of Women, and was honoured as Distinguished Woman Philosopher 2003-4 by the Eastern Society of Women in Philosophy. In 2010 she was keynote speaker at the annual meeting of the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities.
